Hilton Head Island is a haven for bike enthusiasts due to its 12 miles of beachfront, over 50 miles of bike paths and exceptional weather, perfect for outdoor adventures. When you rent your bikes from Hilton Head Outfitters, you can start your Hilton Head bike rental adventure inside Palmetto Dunes Resort. Go for a relaxing ride on the beach during low tide for more sand space, ride through the beautiful live oak trees draped with Spanish moss, and don’t forget to make a pit stop at the Palmetto Dunes General Store for some breakfast (cinnamon rolls are a must!) or grab some of their famous fried chicken during lunch time.

Although Palmetto Dunes is an ideal biking location, the whole island is full of wonderful bike paths that will take you on a memorable adventure. Take a ride to one of the below favorite spots!

Visit the iconic King Neptune Statue at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina and enjoy seasonal events like HarbourFest Fireworks

King Neptune Statue at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

Located just across Hwy 278 is Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, where the first thing you will see is the Neptune Statue, the world’s largest working sundial! Families and friends can gather for a memorable photo in front of this larger-than-life statue.

Make sure to use the underpass from Palmetto Dunes to Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina for safe travel. (Check out our Palmetto Dunes Bike Safety video on how to safely travel by bike from Hilton Head Outfitters to the underpass and over to Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina).

Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina boasts 178 slip rentals, the island’s largest deepwater marina. The marina has great Hilton Head shopping & dining options located around the harbour, as well as waterfront restaurants ranging from a local ice cream shop (Frosty’s Ice Cream) to seafood (Scott’s Fish Market), Mexican (San Miguel’s Mexican Café), fine dining (ELA’S On the Water) and more. Local secret: Shelter Cove Harbour has one of the best sunset views on the island!

Shelter Cove Marina offers inshore and offshore fishing charters, Aloha pontoon boat rentals, 2-person catboats, sunset/nature cruises and much more! There is something fun for everyone in the family to enjoy.

If you happen to be visiting Hilton Head in the Spring or Fall we suggest bike riding over to Neptune Statue for our Music & Taste event. This exciting seasonal event combines the best local bands with delicious food and drinks on select Thursday nights from 6 - 9 p.m.

And if you are staying during the summer months on Hilton Head, join us for HarbourFest. HarbourFest is Hilton Head Island’s largest multi-week event where tens of thousands of visitors gather throughout the summer for 12 firework shows, live entertainment, and a variety of kids activities.

When traveling from Palmetto Dunes Resort, be sure to take the underpass across Hwy 278.

  • Stay on the right side of the resort bike paths as you’re leaving the resort

  • Continue right out of the resort and follow the signs down to the underpass

  • Cross under 278 safely using the underpass

  • Turn right out of the underpass and begin your ride towards Shelter Cove Towne Centre

This plaza features great boutique shopping as well as restaurants offering something for all tastebuds.

Across from Poseidon Coastal Cuisine is Shelter Cove Community Park, where many Hilton Head events happen throughout the year such as Movie Nights, Summer Jams, Snow Day, Concerts and more! (To view Shelter Cove Towne Center events, click here).

If you’re simply wanting to cruise on a relaxing bike ride, take the bike path from Shelter Cove Community Park, past the pavilion stage, along the boardwalk. This path will take you along the water on a beautiful, scenic route about a mile long.

Bike, shop, dine & play at HHI’s popular Coligny Beach & Plaza!

Hilton Head Island Beach

Coligny Beach/Plaza is located on the south end of the island off of Pope Ave and is a must-see beach town destination for any Hilton Head Island visitor.
